Alexander Wentworth-Ping recently joined Scandal with Sierra Gillespie on the Law & Crime Network to talk about Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the now-defunct healthcare technology company Theranos, and the federal case that is once again in the headlines due to the A24 Documentary “You Can See Everything.”
In the segment, Gillespie recounts the case, from indictment to conviction, as well as the film that saw comedian Nathan Fielder documenting Holmes in the 34 days leading up to the beginning of her sentence.
Highlighting his experience as a federal prosecutor, Wentworth-Ping shares how a fraud investigation of this magnitude develops, including whether Theranos’ Edison Device would have been tested before bringing charges.
Gillespie and Wentworth-Ping discuss how journalism played a role in the conviction, criminal intent, the definition of wire fraud, the split verdict in the case, the psychology behind fraudsters, Holmes’ sentence, and the documentary.
