On June 18, 2025, Law360 reported on the firm’s motion, on behalf of its client PAO Tatneft, to resume discovery in aid of execution against Ukraine in light of Ukraine’s unwillingness to pay a $172.9 million judgment rendered in 2021 by the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. The judgment confirmed a 2014 arbitration award arising out of a failed joint venture involving operation of an oil refinery. Shortly after the outbreak of military conflict between Russian and Ukraine, the parties agreed to stay post-judgment discovery, and agreed to a similar stay of third-party discovery Tatneft had commenced in the Southern District of New York. The firm also moved to lift the stay in the New York proceedings and the court granted the motion in May 2025. Schlam Stone lawyers Elizabeth Wolstein, John Moore, and Channing Turner are in charge of the case.
