On December 15, 2021, Schlam Stone & Dolan attorneys Joshua Wurtzel and Jonathan Mazer defeated summary judgment in a case brought by Schlam Stone’s client against his former law partner. In the suit, Schlam Stone’s client alleges that his former partner stole millions from their former, two-man, personal-injury firm, and that the firm’s accountant assisted in and hid this theft by erroneously deducting millions in personal expenses on the firm’s tax returns. In reaching his decision, Justice Joel Cohen of the New York County Commercial Division rejected the defendants’ arguments that the case should be dismissed, and sent the case to trial. After years of hard-fought litigation, this was a particularly rewarding win for Schlam Stone and its client—and certainly another big win for the good guys!
